At Kientzheim, the Aspach Abbey (XI th century) will offer a cosy comfort in a nearby medieval castle transformed in the XVIth century. Today it has become the centre of the Saint-Etienne wine brotherhood.
After crossing the Ammerschwihr vineyard known for its famous Kaefferkopf you will climb the slopes of the under-Vosgian hills to reach the Labaroche village in altitude and the Road of the crests.
You will visit the wood Museum, the work of history enthusiasts about this French-speaking enclave in Alsatian land.
At the Linge you will follow the traces of the fights which opposed French and Germans during the First World War.
The Munster valley remains the most characteristic in the Vosges, with steep slopes, out of reach forests, lakes and and alpine prairies as well as a traditional life punctuated by the transhumances. Every year in summer the” marcaires “ settle in altitude and greet the tourists in their farm.
All along the Road of the crests from the Hahnenbrunnen pass to the Calvaire pass, via the Hohneck and the Schlucht pass you will savor the local soil produce produced or cooked by the marcaires.
You will travel down towards the plain of Alsace along the Orbey small valley and the White and Black lakes. They flow alternatively one into the other in order to drive the turbines from a hydroelectric plant.
Before reaching Kientzheim you should visit Kaysersberg, an other gem of the Alsatian vineyard and Albert Schweitzer’s home town.
