Day 3 : WANGENBOURG-ENGENTHAL - SARREGUEMINES (88 on 285 km)
In the middle of the largest forest massif in the Northern Vosges you will enjoy Wangenbourg a fantastic charming village nicknamed "The little Switzerland from Alsace".
From the Parc-Hôtel, a XIX th century traditional hostelry run by several generations of inn-keepers from the same family you will enjoy a magnificent view.
You will climb on top of the castle keep (XIIIth century) to admire the panorama over the region.
A picturesque road enters into the deepness of a broad-leaved forest sheltered by majestic pine trees which can only be found in this area. Then you will reach a more hilly countryside where your itinerary winds its way between prairies and fruit trees.
You will discover one of the most beautiful Roman churches in Alsace, the Marmoutier abbey church (VI th century).
La Grand'Rue (High Street) of Saverne will lead you to the Rohan’s castle rebuilt in the XVIII th century. Its façade is adorned with fluted pilasters and peristyles supported by eight Corinthian’s columns.
After the Saverne pass you will find back the Vosgian forest up to the village of La Petite-Pierre, the heart of the regional natural Park of the Northern Vosges.
La Maison du Parc is settled in a splendid XII th century castle. You will also visit the Alsatian Seal Museum, one of a kind.
A Soucht, you will discover the Clog Museum and in Meisenthal, The Glass and Crystal House which proposes a reconstitution of the making of glass goods since the XVIII th century.
Before reaching Sarreguemines you will stop in this verdant site to admire a magnificent small church and its round pre Roman tower from the IX th century.
