Champagne vineyards and fortified churches of Argonne

In Etoges, you will notice the XII th century church and its Renaissance gate. Then you will discover below a mound your evening home, a splendid XVII th century castle which reflects in the green waters of its moats.

In a landscape scattered with woods and ponds you will start your itinerary in Champagne. The entrance of the Summelin valley was commanded by the Montmort-Lucy castle (XVI th century).

You will reach the southern hills of Epernay. The square keep of the Brugny castle stands out facing the small valley of Cubry and a bit farther the Pierry castle.

In Epernay you will encounter great champagne names by visiting one of the cellars dug among the tens of kilometres of chalk galleries.

In Hautvillers you will discover the origins of this unstable wine mastered by the monk Dom Pérignon who has rested since XVIII th century in the church abbey Saint-Syndulphe.

Travel down towards the Marne. Cumières is the starting point for cruises along the water stream. In Damery a very beautiful XII th century church overlooks the banks of the river.

When travelling northbound you will reach the wooden spaces of then regional natural Park of the Reims Mountain. You will have the opportunity to visit the botanic centre of la Presle in Nanteuil-la-Forêt and the Park House in Pourcy.

On the Road of Champagne which overlooks the city of Reims in the distance you will discover the Roman church of Coulommes-la-Montagne and the chapel of Saint-Lié.

You will cross the Vesle valley to reach your evening gîte in the Picarde plains.
