Day 1 : SAINT-HILAIRE-DE-COURT - LA VERRERIE (108 on 326 km)
This itinerary on the banks of the river Cher at the very bottom of Sologne and the Berry. At the Beuvrière castle, travel up the time until the Middle Ages, at the heart of a more than 1000 hectare estate.
As soon as you will have left Vierzon and travelling along the left bank of the river Cher you will reach the Berrichonne Champagne scattered with helmets and villages such as Brinay, with the superb frescoes (XIIth century) in Saint- Aignan church. You will cross the river in the area of Quincy. The town of Mehun-s-Yèvre is towered by the remains of the Jean de Berry castle which houses the china pole. When leaving the Yèvre valley you will reach the immense Solognote forests where castles, helmets and ponds nestle.
Stop in Nançay to visit an art gallery in the former stables of the castle and the centre of research radio-astronomic.
According to your wishes you will come across Solognot villages, their typical aspect of which inspired numerous novel authors such as Brinon-sur-Sauldre with its inner courtyard next to the church and its washhouse on the banks of the river.
The well pond (175 hectares) is a paradise for the fauna and flora. Along the hauling path of the former Sauldre canal you will reach Argent-sur-Sauldre and the Blancafort castle. Its pink brick façade from the XVth century is reflected in the sleepy water of the canal.
Before reaching la Verrerie the end of the first journey, drive to Aubigny-s-Nère to see its castle and its former wood framed houses.
