Day 3 : CHATEAU-DE-LA-COTE - MONTBRON (102 on 302 km)
The Côte castle a XVth century home situated at the heart of a magnificent domain on the GR 36 combines good taste and simplicity.
After going past the Puymaurin castle you will cross the river Drôme at the Lisle walled town to reach the road of the Roman churches.
The fortified church of Saint-Pierre-et-Paul, church of Grand Brassac is one of numerous examples of the Roman art richness in this area.
Further you will discover an other XIIth century masterpiece at Montagrier, in Sainte-Madeleine church. This chapel from a former priory church which has now disappeared is one of the kind.
At Ribérac where the market gathers the gastronomic richness of Périgord you will leave the banks of Dronne after a glance on the Gallo-Roman tower, the Rigole manor and the Roman church of Villetoureix. La Tour-Blanche a town with its beautiful Renaissance houses owes its name to a XIIIth century fortress, the keep of which remains visible. In the vicinity you will admire a gothic gate at Saint-Cybard church.
A very pleasant road surrounded by the Saint-Jaunes forest will lead you to the heart of the natural regional Park of Périgord-Limousin.
La Vergue, La Faye, Picheny as many castles which punctuate the Nizonne valley.
Before entering the green bocages of Charente you will cast a last glance on the village of Javerlhac where the church and the castle combine Roman and Renaissance styles.
After the Feuillade and Marthon castles you will leave the Bandiat valley before finding back the discreet charm of Sainte-Catherine castle.
