The magic of Rouergue

For this journey settle down in Conques at the Domain of Combelong at the heart of the magic of Rouergue where landscape and heritage still stand in a thousand-year-old harmony.

Conques a major site on the Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle paths, a magnificent village all coated with lauze owes its fame to one of the jewels of the Roman art, the Sainte-Foy abbey church with its XIIth century tympanum to be admired. You will leave Conques along a small road which overlooks the gorges of Ouche and the Dourdou valley so as to reach the Lot valley.

Further Entraygues appears as a small medieval city surrounded with vineyards which were planted by the monks of Conques in the IXth century.

You will travel towards the Puy of Montabès through the gorges of Truyère. Then the road rises along the wild wooded slopes. After having driven down towards the gorges of Lot and crossed Estaing which gave its name to the local vineyard follow a small road along the left bank of the river. You will travel in the vicinity of Saint-Pierre-de-Bessuéjouls church. Its church tower harbours a unique Roman chapel. When entering in Espalion you will have the opportunity to admire another pink sand stone Roman building from the XIth century : the church of Perse. From the old bridge archways you will distinguish the reflections of the river, the houses with painted wood balconies and the ruins of the Calmont-d'Olt castle.

After having travelled along the Lot river you will drive up the steep slopes of the Puy Lacalm before driving down towards the Lenne valley and Saint-Saturnin the goal of your stopping point.
