Discover le Mas de Couron and its outdated charm of an old family mansion in the middle of a park with centennial pines. It is an ideal starting point to visit Montpellier, the Haut-Languedoc and the Cévennes.
Just past Lattes you will arrive in the vicinity of the Mas de Saporta, restored and arranged by the local winegrowers. It harbours an enology store room and a restaurant which enhance the best local produce.
After Montarnaud you will join the road of wines which will lead you towards the Pont du Diable, the Clamouse Grotto and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.
You will have to enter between the wild gorges of the Hérault river and climb the steep slopes of Verdus gorges in order to reach the former abbey of Saint-Guilhem village. At the bend in the road you will enjoy a unique view over the village and the church of the abbey built in the XIth century.
When driving back you could stop at the Clamouse Grotto which distinguishes itself by the amount of aragonite and calcite which crystallize inside.
You will see again the villages of Montpeyroux and Arboras on the road of wines before reaching Saint-Maurice-Navacelles. Then you will be within a few kilometres from the Cirque of Navacelles which deserves the visit.
To end this itinerary find your refuge at the Madières castle a genuine strong hold of the XIXth century hanged on the side of the mountain the terrace of which offers a pleasant view over the river and the village.
