From the Rhône valley to the Gorges of Ardèche

Day 3 : LE POUZIN - BOURG-SAINT-ANDEOL (76 on 240 km)

First you will drive back in the direction of the Chomérac castle. Leave the basin of Ouvèze to enter the mountain. Its base which is covered of basalt provides the landscape with dark humours.

After Saint-Bauzile the road will enter into the Lavèzon valley. After Saint-Martin-le-Supérieur the road will climb berween the slopes scattered with basalt organs.

In the vicinity of the Fontenelle pass a wide clearing enables the visitor to make out the Rhône river in the far distance.

You will drive down the Fayol valley to reach Alba-la-Romaine its castle and its Roman remains.

A small road will lead you in the direction of the Gras plateau towered by the Dent de Rez. When you arrive at Gras you will notice a XIIth century chapel perched on a rocky spur.

After a visit to the Larnas church you will drive between the stony gorges with the steep and wild slopes of Sainte-Beaume.

You will cross the Laoul wood to reach the priory church in Bourg-Saint Andéol, the end of this superb circuit.
