All along this itinerary you will follow a road which winds its way across the most famous vineyards of Beaujolais, driving up the hills covered with vineyards then driving down towards the verdant Saône valley.
You will travel through charming winegrower villages which keep the print of their history such as Saint-Julien : the scholar Claude Bernard’s hometown, Salles-Arbuissonnas-en-Beaujolais which has kept some buildings of a priory church founded in the Xth century, and according to the legend the Arigny castle in Charentay would shelter the Templars’ treasure.
After Saint-Lager, you will drive around Mount Brouilly on the slopes of which the famous Côtes de Brouilly vintage is collected.
Then you will reach the crests along a succession of passes and peaks where superb landscapes can be admired.
At the foot of Mount Soubrant, at the pass of la Croix de Marchampt an outstanding view overlooks the whole area.
You will gradually drive down towards the Saône valley by travelling along roads which cross typical landscapes of Beaujolais.
