Week-end in Beaujolais

Day 1 : GLEIZE - GLEIZE (68 on 168 km)

During this week end at the heart of the Beaujolais hills, you will stay in a genuine medieval building rebuilt in the XVIIIth century which links charm, comfort and authenticity.

As soon as you will leave the Chervinges Castle you will meet a road of the crests which overlook the Saône valley and it will lead you to Marcy.

You will be ready to drive up to the tower Chappe where you will admire an outstanding view over la Dombe, the Mounts of Lyonnais and the Beaujolais valley.

A town with its fortifications towering over l’Azergues stands up at the bend in the road of the crests.

In Chazay d'Azergues you will come across a belfry and some XVth and XVIth century houses.

A few miles away, you will discover the high gothic style church of Chessy, then the XVth century castle of Bagnols.

The Nizy door, a remain of the formidable Oingt stronghold appears at the end of the road.

Further you will follow a very scenic road which crosses the Chêne Pass. Farms, pastures and views follow each other.

From Chambot-Allières the drive down to Villefranche will lead you up to the Chevinges Castle, which offers a splendid view over the Saône valley.
