Day 2 : BRICQUEBEC - PORT-EN-BESSIN-HUPPAIN (125 on 354 km)
The old castle towering above the plain of Bricquebec belonged to Robert Bertrand, a Guillaume the Conqueror’s companion-in-arms at the battle of Hastings.
You will resume your itinerary in the direction of Valognes a town nicknamed «The small Norman Versailles» in the XVIIIth century because of its private mansions built by landlords who made fortune with the maritime trade.
You will travel towards the northern part of the peninsula between bocage and forest before reaching a picturesque circuit in the Val of Saire and its versants covered with thick woods.
In Quettehou you will reach the western coast of Cotentin. From the XIII th century church a magnificent view can be seen over the Morsalines bay and the le fort de la Hougue.
A Quinéville the museum of liberty recalls the atmosphere of the Occupation black years.
Farther you will discover between the dunes and in a gap a pink granite monument which commemorates the Général Leclerc’s landing when leading the glorious 2nd D.B.
On the 6th June 1944 at dawn the Americans landed on Utah Beach, in the vicinity of La Madeleine where stands the first Landing Museum and the borne 00 de «the liberty way la liberté».
You will approach the swampy areas of the Vire estuary, there you will admire the fauna along the initiatory circuit set by the Cantepie house.
After having crossed the Vire estuary you will arrive in Isigny, a dairy tradition area.
You will reach your “table d’hôtes” to savor the renowned butter and cream.
