Toulouse-Lautrec’s country

Day 1 : MAURIAC - CAHUZAC-SUR-VERE (104 on 204 km)

First day Second day Road book

For your week-end settle down in Cahuzac-sur-Vère at the Salettes castle. Through the vineyard the origins of which go back to the Roman occupation your itinerary will lead you up to Gaillac where you will amble through the maze of old houses standing along the narrow side streets.

You will resume your road through the label "premières côtes" up to Castelnau-de-Montmiral a former cottage perched on a rocky spur towering the Vère valley.

Then you will follow the cottage road, small medieval towns from the XIIIth century built by the French or the English with an immutable layout around an archway square inside a fortified surrounding wall.

Travelling along the Grésigne forest, an immense massif planted with oak trees and cham trees during the XVIIth et XVIIIth centuries you will distinguish Bruniquel and its castle set in a magic background on a rocky spur at the end of the gorges of Aveyron. Travelling along the left bank of the river you will reach Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val with its labyrinth of medieval houses and their coloured front walls standing along the streets.

You will finish this journey by visiting the pearl of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Cordes-sur-Ciel has been protected from the wars and the time tribulations, it was built in 1222 on top of the Puech of Mordague in a unique site overlooking the Cérou valley. Then you will reach Cahuzac.
